The Wedding Table Mystery

A drop of water appeared beneath our cafe table before a wedding lunch. Before the doors opened, it had darkened one pale floorboard beside a leg. I called a plumber, but nobody could come before the guests arrived. The nearest pipe was dry, yet the floor remained wet. Then my assistant spotted a damp ring directly above the stain. A chilled bottle stood there, with water running beneath its paper label. Its cap was tight, but tiny beads covered the cold glass. I put the bottle on a plate and dried the floor. No fresh drops appeared, and the wedding lunch began on time. We avoided a repair bill, and the newly polished floor stayed pale.
